Power-Jackson Cabin

POWER-JACKSON CABIN c. 1830. This cabin is one of the rare examples of a single-pen (one room) log house remaining in Cobb County. Although a framed addition was added later, the original hand-hewn, squared-and-notched log construction is still visible. William Power originally acquired the house in trade for a shotgun.

His daughter Martha Jane and her husband Jeptha C. Jackson moved in shortly after their marriage in the late 1840s. After her husband's death in 1888, Mrs. Jackson continued to run their farm. She died in 1924 at age 96. When her estate was settled in 1926, approximately 105 acres of land around the site of this marker were sold for $1,800.
