Albert Smith Marks birthplace site, October 16, 1836. Moved to Tennessee at age 19. Served as the 24th governor of that state, 1879-81, following distinguished service in Civil War. Enlisted early in the Confederacy, rising to rank of colonel. Battle of Perryville, 1862. Severely wounded Battle of Murfreesborough, December 31, 1862.
