About 60,000 acres along Panther Creek and Green River owned by George Mason, author of Virginia Bill of Rights and Constitution, 1776. Designed Virginia State Seal. Member Continental Congress, 1777, and United States Constitutional Convention. A Virginian, friend and neighbor of George Washington.

Died, 1792, without visiting Kentucky. Grandson George W. Mason lived near here.
