A University of Mississippi graduate, Dr. Clark received his M.A. degree from UK and a Ph.D. from Duke. A historian at UK from 1931 to 1968, he chaired the history department for 23 years. Dr. Clark helped establish both the UK Libraries’ Special Collections and the University Press of Kentucky. Class of 2006.

The author and editor of over thirty books, Dr. Clark had an influence that extended well beyond the UK campus. A former president of the Organization of American Historians, he was instrumental in the development of the state library and archives and the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort, which now bears his name. Class of 2006.
