ST. VINCENT DE PAUL PARISH
Parish included a church, convent,
rectory and school. Original
church cornerstone laid in 1878 at
present site. D.X. Murphy designed
the larger Gothic Church begun in
1886. Expanded by Fred Erhart in
1927. Parish closed in the 1990s.
Restored church served as a
catalyst for Shelby Park
neighborhood revitalization.

Celebrated Louisville architect
D.X. (Dennis Xavier) Murphy served
as draftsman for Henry Whitestone
starting in 1874. In 1881, Murphy
continued firm under his name
after Whitestone retired. Firm
designed iconic twin spires at
Churchill Downs, jails, hospitals,
schools, homes and businesses.
Buried in St. Louis Cemetery.
