Inscription
In 1889, George Clarke came to Hindman, licensed to practice law. Seeing the need of education, Clarke established a subscription school with the help of the students and citizens. Educator, State School Inspector, member State Board of Examiners. Died, 1940. His epitaph reads: "Let God be praised and let Eastern Kentucky rejoice that so great a man once graced its soil.
