Inscription
This was last home of Capt. John Lewis, born 1747 in Va., son of Col. Fielding Lewis and Catherine Washington, first cousin of George Washington. Col. Lewis and John supplied Va. troops with gunpowder during Rev. War. In 1811, John and daughter Mary Ann moved to Warren Co. Losing his land to squatters, he came to his sons' home, died in 1825, and was buried here.
