Oldest extant Catholic College for men west of the Alleghenies and third oldest in the nation. Founded in 1821 by the Reverend William Byrene. Conducted by the Jesuit Fathers, 1833-1846, by the Holy Cross Fathers, 1846-1848, by the Diocesan Fathers, 1848-1869. Closed 1869-1871. Directed by the Resurrection Fathers since 1871.
