Lincoln Spoke Here
Inscription
Abraham Lincoln's only political speech in his native state, here, 1840, at age 31. An elector from Illinois, he campaigned for Whig presidential candidate William Henry Harrison. From Shawneetown, across river, Lincoln led parade. Young ladies rode on floats drawn by white horses. Cannon for salute burst upon firing.
