Butler in Annapolis The 8th Massachusetts Infantry reached Annapolis April 21, 1861, on the Railroad Ferry Maryland. Col. Benjamin F. Butler forwarded his and the 7th New York Infantry regiments to Washington. Shortly he was directed to prevent the legislature from acting on secession from the Union.
