Inscription

Beginning in 1896, an electric trolley line over Catoctin Mountain provided passenger and freight service between the city of Frederick and the farms of Middletown Valley. It offered a transportation alternative at a time when the National Pike was often in disrepair. Braddock Heights, a resort designed for urbanites seeking time away from cities, was founded by railway officials.

The trolley line closed in 1954.
