Oxford-Bellevue Ferry November 1683 Believed to be nation's oldest privately operated ferry service. Ferry has plied across Tred Avon River since Talbot County Court "pitcht upon Mr. Richard Royston to keepe a ferry" November 20, 1683. Service has been continuous since 1836. Erected 1974 by the Star-Democrat, Talbot County Historical Society and Maryland Historical Society
