A causeway was built here in the 1790s establishing a new overland route. By the 19th century Dennis Creek Landing became a major shipbuilding center on the Delaware Bay. Many homes in South Dennisville still reflect the architecture that was seen in the fine homes of the ship captains and boat builders of the area.
