Inscription

Accomplished potter and Nambe Pueblo’s first woman lieutenant governor, Virginia’s work has appeared in the Smithsonian Museum and in galleries around the world. As a young girl, she learned her trade from a great aunt and became particularly well known for her distinctive plates. She helped support her family by selling her work, although she gave much of it away to family and friends.

A proud member of her Pueblo, she spoke Tewa fluently and served honorably as lieutenant governor in 1991 and 1992.
