Fort Craig Rest Area
Inscription
Fort Craig is on alluvial gravelly sands, derived from mountains to the west, sloping toward the Rio Grande to the east. Magdalena Mountains to the northwest and the San Mateo Mountains to the west are mainly thick piles of volcanic rocks. The San Andres mountains on the southeast horizon are of older limestones and shales.
