Meeting place built in 1846-47 adjacent to Byberry Friends Meeting by renowned African American abolitionist Robert Purvis and others to facilitate public discussion of slavery and other social issues. Many famous abolitionists such as James and Lucretia Mott and William Lloyd Garrison spoke here. Purvis's farm estate across Byberry Road was a regular station on the Underground Railroad.

Purvis estimated he helped over 9,000 to escape.
