Inscription
1877 Founded by John R. Lowe in April 1877, he was first postmaster. Had a newspaper, The Bijou Hills Times, a bank, ‘Bank of Bijou Hills’ 1891-1926. The Hills were named for Bijou, fur trader, with a post on the Missouri in 1812.
