Inscription
Born 1830 in Utica, NY, Oley was in that state's National Guard and came to western Virginia in 1861 to drill Union troops. He rose to rank of brevet brigadier general by war's end. In 1871 Oley settled in Huntington and worked as land agent for Collis P. Huntington. Helped form Trinity Episcopal and was city recorder and treasurer until his death on March 11, 1888.
