Inscription
In 1784, Harrison County was formed from Monongalia by an Act of General Assembly. Commissioners who were to be members of the first county court met, as directed by the Assembly, at the home of George Jackson (an uncle of Stonewall Jackson) at Bush's Fort on the Buckhannon River to organize the new county.
The site of the meeting is in present Upshur County, but in 1784 was a part of Harrison.
